Every year I like to change my flower box to new flowers and love having bright colors in my window. I decided on purple this summer to brighten up my porch. I went to the Dollar Store to grab my flowers and chose ones with different hues, height and added in some greenery. I like the contrast because it gives it more dimension so the flowers look real!! From a distance, you can’t tell them are faux! Here is my super quick and easy way to add in flowers to a flower box. It’s low material and takes less than 20 minutes to do!
Supplies You Need:
A lot of the supplies you can get from the Dollar Store such as the flowers, greenery, foam noodle and string. I had left over Twine from another project so it worked great. From a hardware store you will need 1 piece of 2×4 wood to measure and fit inside your flower box (or larger rocks) I would make it about 2 inches shorter than the box so you have some wiggle room to get it out. I always take the whole noodle out for the winter and it makes for easy transport!
1.) 1- 2×4 piece of Wood
2.) Twine
3.) Foam Noodle
4.) Faux Greenery
5.) Faux Flowers
6.) Wire Cutters
Step 1:
Measure your flower box size to cut the piece of 2×4 wood and also the noodle. You can cut it the same length as the foam noodle or just cut 2 small blocks (shown below) to help stabilize the foam so it doesn’t move around. I just used two blocks. You could also use 2 rocks or anything of weight that will hold the foam down so the wind doesn’t blow it away!
Step 2:
I tied the twine around the wooden blocks for stabilization. Then start adding in your greenery and floral! I used wire cutters to cut off the smaller flowers so I could arrange it more evenly. Then poked the flowers through the foam and adjusted the height as needed so you can still see them through the flower box and they are not too low. If you need more height just add more wood underneath!
It took me around 10 minutes to create, but take your time and have fun with playing around with height, dimension and contrast with the flowers! I think that helps make them look more real. Hope you have fun with this little DIY! Let me know what you create! I would love to see your flower boxes 🙂
